As the sun rose over a potato field in Western New Brunswick, I found myself counting my blessings yet again. Photography brings me to places I could never have imagined and allows me to learn such interesting new things.
The Brennans have been farming this land for well over a hundred years. Farming is an important thread in their family tapestry and Mary-Alice, who grew up on the farm, decided it was time to document the potato harvest as a family keepsake. She kindly invited me to Johnville to photograph it.
It’s nothing short of amazing to be standing in front of a building containing a million potatoes. Until now, I had never fully appreciated the humble potato. It’s incredible to see how hard folks work to get food from the farm to the table. When I roll my cart down the aisle, I have a new appreciation for the neat piles of produce in the grocery store. I’m thankful there are dedicated, hard-working farmers like the Brennan family and I’m honoured to share a small page of their story with you!
